PDP vows to shock APC, Oshiomhole on NASS leadership

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has taken a swipe at the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, for insisting that the party will not share chairmanship of House of Representatives and Senate’ Committees with opposition parties in the 9th Assembly.

The party described as unfortunate, the statement credited to Oshiomhole, adding that there is no way the Speaker of the House and President of the Senate would emerge without the support of lawmakers elected on the platform of the PDP.

A statement yesterday by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Diran Odeyemi, said the PDP has a joker it is keeping close to the chest.

He warned that when the chips are down, both Oshiomhole and the APC will be shocked.

Odeyemi said: “We wonder why Adams Oshiomhole will continue to display a clear lack of understanding of how the leadership of the federal parliament emerges.

“It seems he believes that his choice of Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila for the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively will see fruition without the support of our lawmakers. We have our own strategy and at the right time, both him (Oshiomhole) and the APC will be shocked.

“As a party still learning the ropes, having only won elections in 2015, APC can be forgiven for thinking the leadership of the National Assembly is its own to determine.”

On the chairmanship of the committees, the publicity scribe counselled Oshiomhole not to be in a hurry, stating that very soon, the chairmen will emerge in a way he would find difficult to understand.

“He should not be in a hurry and like I said, Oshiomhole appears to have little understanding of how these things work. The chairmen of the committees are not his to appoint. The earlier he realises this, the better for him,” he added.

Liverpool vs Barcelona: Why EPL side hiked ticket price of Champions League semi-final

Liverpool have taken a cue from Manchester United and hiked prices for away supporters when they host Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals.

The plan is to subsidise tickets for own fans travelling to the Nou Camp, the Premier League club have said.

Manchester United had hiked prices for their quarter-final tie with Barcelona when the Spanish club charged 102 pounds ($132.50), which British media reported was the most expensive ticket to a United game outside of a final.

Liverpool have been allocated 4,620 away tickets priced at 119 Euros ($133.70) each for the first leg in Spain on May 1.

In response, the Merseyside club hiked their ticket prices for Barcelona supporters travelling to Anfield to the same amount, and will use the extra revenue to ensure Liverpool fans pay only 88 Euros for the first leg.

“All away tickets are priced at 119 Euros, which is in line with Barcelona’s pricing structure for the knockout stages of this season’s Champions League,” Liverpool said in a statement.

“As a result, LFC will charge Barcelona supporters a reciprocal ticket price of 119 Euros in the return leg at Anfield on Tuesday, May 7.

“The additional revenue from this higher ticket pricing will be used to subsidise Liverpool supporters for their tickets, reducing the price by 31 Euros to 88 Euros.”

Tottenham Hotspur play Ajax Amsterdam in the other semi-final with the final scheduled at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano stadium in the Spanish capital on June 1.

Biafra: Prophet Nwoko reportedly murdered after series of threat to his life

A popular prophet, Anthony Nwoko, has been allegedly murdered in cold blood in Enugu, according to The Bengbenro news.

Nwoko who was a close ally of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, prayed for him and the group in their struggle to achieve Biafra.

The Bengbenro news reports that the prophet was killed by unknown assailants last Sunday night at his apartment located at No. 18 Ezebinugwu Street, beside Bright Land International School, Ugbene 2, in the Trans-Ekulu-Abakpa axis of Enugu.

However, nothing about Nwoko’s death was heard days after because he lived alone.

According to the report, his death became known when a neighbour noticed that the door of his apartment had remained open; peeped in and saw the man in the pool of his blood.

The attention of the caretaker of the compound was called, who immediately alerted the police, who responded to the scene.

No official report has come from the Enugu State Police Command, but the newspaper added that they had initially arrested occupants of the compound.

Before his death, Nwoko had taken to his Facebook page to speak about his relationship with Kanu.

He said their relationship went sour after the IPOB leader made him relocate from Lagos to Enugu only to abandon him.

His last posts on Facebook were at about 1:40 pm on April 14, where he uploaded various online reports of his views on Biafra agitation, including video clips from Kpakpando TV.

He had in press conferences on January 8 and March 18, 2019, respectively, accused Kanu and some other pro-Biafra campaigners of turning the agitation into a money-making venture.

Nwoko had raised the alarm that he was receiving death threats from members of the IPOB over his bribery allegations against their leader, Kanu.

The cleric had claimed that Kanu not only collected huge sums of monies as bribe from the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the February 23 election but planned to return to Nigeria to “consolidate on his Biafra propaganda if Atiku had won”.

“They have been calling me with different lines, making different phone calls, threatening my life. They are calling me fake because I stand by the truth. I went to Kuje prison to pray for Nnamdi Kanu and the next court case he was released.

“I went to Affara-Ukwu to tell him the way forward; he did not listen. Many people are not listening to the voice of God and they want me to be that way. Prophet Nwoko says no. I will never compromise.

“Even if they kill me, I will return with the light of heaven. I am not afraid of the people of the world. I am telling Uche Mefor and IPOB to stop threatening my life. Let me put this straight to everyone: I am ready to die standing by the truth because that is why Jesus Christ came for.

“If everybody will keep quiet, this nation will be destroyed. If everybody will keep quiet, Biafra will not come. Let people know the truth.”

The prophet hailed from Umuahia in Abia state.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sympathetic afterwards, saying: “That’s unfortunate with goalkeepers. When you make an error it can get highlighted and that’ll be remembered tonight.

“You know when you get to this level you cannot slip up and you cannot make mistakes and you’ve got to take the chances you get yourself. And we didn’t capitalise on our great chance, but then they have their first two shots on target, that’s two goals and game over.”

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last night met with serving and newly-elected lawmakers ahead of the inauguration of members of the 9th National Assembly.

The meeting came barely 24 hours after the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) adopted Senator Ahmed Lawan, and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as the next Senate President, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively.

The meeting, which was held behind closed-doors at the Lagos/Osun Hall, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, had in attendance all the serving and newly-elected lawmakers that are members of the PDP.

Speaking before the meeting went into a closed-door session, the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin, urged members of the 9th senate to ensure that the party retains the leadership.

“We have come to share ideas on how to keep the party alive. We are very proud of the members of the National Assembly; you are the hope of our party. I hope you will keep hope alive. We have no doubt that what is before us, we are going to surmount it. PDP should lead the Senate,” he said.

It is believed that the meeting would afford the main opposition party an opportunity to strategise in order for the party to retain important leadership positions in the National Assembly.

Killings: CAN blows hot, tells Buhari govt how to deal with those responsible

The National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Reverend Samson Ayokunle, has charged the Federal Government to ensure that those behind the killings of innocent Nigerians are dealt with according to the constitution.

This was as Ayokunle called on the Federal government to adopt all necessary measures to stop the rampant and senseless killings of Nigerians.

He gave the call yesterday in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, after donating relief materials to Internally Displayed Persons, IDP’s, at the Saint Theresa Catholic Cathedral.

According to Ayokunle: “Security of lives and property is solely the responsibility of the Federal government and as such all measures it deems necessary to end the bloodshed in the land must be put in place; immediately.

“If there’s need for the federal government to seek foreign assistance to put to an end the menace of killings and kidnapping in the country will be applauded by all.

“There’s no reason for the Federal Government to continue to deceive Nigerians and propagating that the Boko Haram sects have been degraded, even as Madagali local government area of the state is still under the control of the sects.

“Even if the insurgency BOKO Haram is defeated and other crimes resulting in the killings of Nigerians is on the increase, then we have to look inwards towards solving the problems of bandits, kidnapping, cultism, herdsmen attacks and other crimes that is ravaging the nation now.

“I want those liable for the killings of innocent people to be dealt with as enshrined in the constitution, since the victims they killed are not animals even so, there must be a reason for killing animals.”
